The lingerie tycoon has spent most of the past 24 hours railing against critics on her Twitter/X account, following her disastrous interview with Laura Kuenssberg in which she admitted she lied when denying involvement with a company that won UK government deals to provide personal protective equipment during the pandemic.
Having criticised moderators for inserting a ‘reader added context’ note in one post about PPE Medpro’s contracts, she suffered the indignity of having another added in her follow-up complaint about it being ‘very biased and factually incorrect’. But now ‘Baroness Bra’ has a new target in her sights: the Prime Minister. It follows Rishi Sunak’s visit to Scotland earlier today, in which he said, with regards to the allegations about her that ‘the government takes these things incredibly seriously, which is why we’re pursuing legal action against the company concerned in these matters.’
In response, Mone hit back on Twitter/X saying: ‘What is @RishiSunak talking about? I was honest with the Cabinet Office, the Government and the NHS in my dealings with them. They all knew about my involvement from the very beginning.’ In an earlier message, Mone also suggested that, if anyone was to blame for the government overspending on PPE, it was Michael Gove, Cabinet Office minister during Covid and now Levelling Up Secretary, and Sir Chris Wormald, Permanent Secretary at the Department of Health:
Michael Gove and Sir Chris Wormald approved the purchase of 5 years supply of PPE when the remit was to build up only 4 months. They oversaw huge waste in PPE contracts. They have both had questions to answer for a very long time.
And who better to ask them than Baroness Mone, eh?
